BANK ROBBERY ARREST
January 23, 2012
Investigation into the CIBC bank robbery on Jan 20th has resulted in the arrest of a 42 yr old North Bay man. Scott Leonard Boyes of Lakeshore Dr was arrested at 5:17PM on Jan 20th near the intersection of Lakeshore Dr and George St. He was charged with robbery, possession of a controlled substance, and held in custody for a bail hearing. The investigation is continuing.

Complainant moved her Blue, 1987 GMC 4X4 to a parking lot at 352 McIntyre Street East in North Bay to facilitate snow removal at her residence across the street, at 2:00pm yesterday. When she returned to pick-up her truck at 4:00pm it was gone.

At 10:30AM on 17 Jan a 50yr old North Bay woman was arrested and charged with bigamy. It is alleged that she married a man approximately 25 yrs ago, was separated but never divorced. She married another man in 2008. She is to appear in court on 28th Feb. Cst Fernando Cirullo is investigating.

At 10:30PM Wed 11Jan a woman while looking at her cell phone walked to her vehicle that was parked in a parking lot on Main St E. She had entered the vehicle when her door was opened and a male tried to get into the driver’s seat, assaulting and threatening her in the process.

Between 6:00 and 6:15 PM on Jan 9th three vehicles parked in Memorial Gardens parking lot had the rear passenger windows smashed and a woman’s purse stolen from each. All three were targeted because the purses were visible from outside the vehicle. The North Bay Police wish to caution the public about leaving valuables in their vehicles regardless of where it is parked.

North Bay Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating an elderly lady who has been missing since 5;00 PM on the 03 January. Joan Van Fleet 75yrs was last seen putting on winter clothes and leaving her residence on the 400 block of Fisher St. She is described as; 5’2”, 100lbs, frail, thin build, wearing a white winter hat with grey flip down ears, dark pants, beige winter boots and a 3/4 length lime green winter coat with white sleeves and matching gloves.

A woman’s purse containing a wallet, cards and personal identification and was stolen from the residence and 2 vehicles in the driveway were entered using keys from the purse. On December 12th, 2011, Richard C. Orton, age 41 of North Bay, was arrested by the North Bay Police Service and charged with the alleged offences of Mischief, Criminal Harassment, Breach of a Peace Bond and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. The mischief charge stems from on-going complaints from persons living in Mr. Orton’s neighbourhood regarding his behaviour, which has interfered with the lawful enjoyment of their properties.

At 8:00 PM 07 Dec a man with a large knife in one hand and a shopping bag in the other entered a convenience store on the 600 block of Lakeshore Dr. He thrust the bag and the knife towards the clerk and demanded the clerk put the money in the bag. When the clerk reached for the panic button the man fled. The entire incident lasted less than 10 seconds.

PRESCRIPTION THEFT

Between 6PM on the 7th Dec and 9:30 AM on the 8th Dec a prescription vial of 116 Percocet pills were taken from an unlocked vehicle on the 2400 block of Trout Lake Rd. The pills are 325milligrams each and can be dangerous to anyone they are not prescribed for.

Theft of Pills from Pharmacy

The North Bay Police Service was contacted by a local Pharmacy following an audit on Oxycontin tablets. During this audit, it was learned that several pills were unaccounted for. Police were told that an internal theft was suspected and the viewing of a video surveillance system at the pharmacy revealed that an employee had been stealing the narcotics.

FURTHER POPPY FUND CHARGES

William McDaid 31yrs of no fixed address has been charged with 6 additional charges of theft under $5000.00. Four of the new charges are in relation to the poppy fund thefts. The other two new charges are in relation to incidents that occurred in August where a man went around the counter at two different businesses and removed cash from the cash register when the employees were busy. At 3:23 pm November 8th a man stepped in front of a northbound police car on the Main St overpass. Once the cruiser stopped the man held up his fists, and started kicking and punching the driver’s door preventing the officer from getting out. A plain clothes officer attended causing the man to move from the door.

At 8:41Am today a theft of a Poppy Fund Tray occurred at the Best Western on Lakeshore Dr. The suspect was wearing a hoodie and fled on a red bike. The Traffic Section of the North Bay Police Service reports that Quarter 3 of 2011 saw a 5% reduction in accidents in North Bay and Callander, compared to the Third Quarter of 2010. The man was arrested on Aug 29th and has been charged with Sexual Interference, Sexual Exploitation, Trafficking Substance, Extortion, Making Child Pornography, Possession of Child Pornography and Theft Under $5000. Pig Recovered
August 23, 2011
City Police are pleased to report that the Pot-Bellied Pig from a Decaire Road residence in North Bay, reported stolen this morning, has been recovered. According to the owner, the pig was released while unknown persons were breaking into her shed. The Pig, named “Breakfast”, was picked up by a North Bay Humane Society patrol officer last night, and the owner has retrieved her pet this morning.

On August 19, 2011, at approximately10:00 am, Cst. Geoff Whittle attended a Greenhill Avenue residence to investigate a Break & Enter.
Upon arrival he was advised by a 10-year-old boy that another person was in their house and when confronted by the resident, the suspect ran from the house. It was determined the suspect entered the house through a rear sliding door, by prying the hinges off.

Jody deHaas of the North Bay Police has charged a 38-year-old male with assault Causing Bodily Harm and Breach of Recognizance following an incident where it is alleged a male approached another male who was walking with his girlfriend on Fisher Street at approximately 1:00pm August 16, 2011. The accused punched the victim in the face, breaking his glasses, and then the accused left the area.

Two Break and enters were reported in the last two days; investigated by police. One, in August 8th at a residence on the 1600 Block of Wyld Street, was entered by culprits cutting a screen on an open window to gain entry. Items stolen were: 2-HP Laptop Premium Series computers, (one blue, one Black), 3-gold rings (one with a large ruby), 20 DVD’s (X-box & movies), ½ carton of cigarettes, 1-Green “Mammoth” brand packsack and an undisclosed amount of cash. On Saturday august 06, 2011, two males were in a heated argument over a dog trespassing on one of the males’ property. One of the accused started berating the other accused’s’ daughter and a pushing/shoving match started. One male punched the other and began to walk away when the second male returned from his residence with a table leg and hit the first accused man on the shoulder and back. Both males were arrested and charged, held in custody for a short time and released on an OIC undertaking to attend court Sept 13, 2011.

Between 4:00AM and 8:00AM on 3rd Aug a secure shop located at 100 Eloy Rd was broken into and a variety of tools and scrap brass taken. The tools include torque wrenches, impact guns, spray paint and tool box shelving. The shop is the property of the company contracted to demolish the old Nord Fibre plant. Stolen Vehicle – Recovered

On Sunday, May 05, Police observed a male known to them operating a vehicle in North Bay. A check on the plates revealed the vehicle as stolen from the Peel Regional Police area. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, suspect sped away with police in pursuit, and then following by a foot pursuit; a 32-year-old male was arrested and brought to Police Headquarters to be held for a bail hearing.

Further investigation into this incident has found that 4 persons are alleged to have attended the residence to rob the victim. It is also alleged that there were 3 additional people involved. This property is described as 4 equipment bags that were left in a driveway.
These bags contain baseball bats, baseball gloves, snowshoes and poles.

On the 4th of May between the hours of 4 PM and 6 PM someone threw rocks at two motor vehicles at the rear parking lot of 665 Oak St. E.
It is believed that the rocks were thrown from the nearby railway tracks.
The damage consisted of a window being broken as well as several dents to the vehicle panels.

It is alleged that an individual running a business called “Docks by Design” accepted several deposits but never supplied the product.

On the 29th of Dec. at approximately 9 PM it is alleged that a woman attacked a man within her residence.
During the process it is further alleged that the male victim was spray painted in the face and struck with a hammer. The victim eventually managed to escape outside where the battle continued but he was able to gain control and the North Bay Police were called.

During the above week officers of our Service operating the RIDE unit stopped 1318 vehicles.
During that time period they gave 4 screening tests resulting in one impaired driving charge. The officers also charged 2 drivers for driving under suspension and laid 3 Highway Traffic Act charges as well as one Liquor Licence Act charge.
