Near North Crime Stoppers
Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization which rallies the community, the news media and the police in a collective campaign against crime.
With the cooperation of local news media, television re-enactments, radio broadcasts and newspaper articles, Crime Stoppers helps focus the public's attention on local unsolved crimes and offers a phone number to call to report crime. The caller has the ability to pass on the information with absolute anonymity.
Near North Crime Stoppers also acts as a host for the Tri-Town Crime Stoppers Program by answering all of their telephone tips and relaying the information to the appropriate agencies in the District of Temiscaming.
Funds are raised through charity events including large prize draws, a golf tournament, several bingos, and Nevada ticket sales that are held throughout the year, as well as direct contributions from businesses and civic groups.
Since its inception in 1988, the Near North Crime Stoppers Program has expanded its reach into the community with programs in high schools, working with other law enforcement agencies like the
Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Social Services.
