Public complaints: The Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD) opened on October 19, 2009. The OIPRD is an arms-length agency of the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, staffed entirely by civilians. The OIPRD’s goal is to provide an objective, impartial office to accept, process and oversee the investigation of public complaints against Ontario’s police. The OIPRD’s oversight role begins with the receipt of a public complaint and continues to the end of the investigation. The Chiefs of Police are still responsible for discipline of police officers and holding disciplinary hearings. The OIPRD will work to identify and offer solutions to systemic or ongoing issues within the police service. Members of the public who wish to file a complaint are encouraged to attend the lobby of the North Bay Police Service and request to speak to the Officer in Charge. Our objective is to attempt to first resolve any complaints concerning the conduct of an officer, or complaints involving our policies or service. Also, members of the public may wish to pursue their complaint by filling out an OIPRD Public Complaint form located in our lobby or may contact the OIPRD by the following means:
By mail or visit in person:
Toll-free phone: 1-877-411-4773 A members of the public may log onto their website, download a complaint form and send it to them or a hard copy request of the form can be requested at OIPRDcomplaints@ontario.ca. |
