The Bicycle Patrol Program had initially been instituted to the ever increasing need for a police presence in both the downtown core as well as the waterfront and bike paths.

With two bicycles and officers assigned to this duty over the summer months, bicycle patrol has proven itself to be effective. It allows our officers to get into areas where they might otherwise not attend. The trail system in the city, beaches, Callander, parks and neighbourhoods, and the downtown core have all benefitted from the officers riding in these areas.

Problem solving, education and enforcement are the tools used to combat complaints that include bicycles on the sidewalk and break-ins. As well, a number of Liquor Licence Act infractions and drug seizures have resulted, due in part to the surreptitious nature of the bicycle patrol.
