Glen McLean Recognized for Bravery

Mr. Glen McLean was recognized for bravery by Board Chair Chirico and Chief Cook at the January 22, 2008 Police Services Board Meeting.

On May 11, 2005 Mr. McLean intervened and stopped a serious crime in progress, potentially saving the life of a 17-year old female.

On that date, at approximately 4:00 a.m. the victim was walking home from work when she noticed that a male was following her. Seconds later the suspect grabbed her from behind with one hand on her throat and the other hand over her mouth. He than dragged her into some bushes where he threw her to the ground.

At this point, Mr. McLean became aware of the situation as he resided in the vicinity and he heard the female’s screams. Mr. McLean yelled at them, grabbed a shovel and ran towards their location. When he arrived the victim was getting up from the ground and the suspect had fled the area. Mr. McLean led the female to his residence where the police were called.

The police investigation that followed culminated in the arrest of Christopher Myers, age 25 from the Ottawa area. Myers was charged with Sexual Assault and Forcible Confinement.

Further investigation conducted by the Ottawa Police Service with the assistance of our Police Service and several other police agencies resulted in Myers being arrested and charged for the 2003 murder of Ardeth Wood.

On January 8, 2008 Myers plead guilty to Second Degree Murder in Ottawa and the Sexual Assault that took place in North Bay as well as other Sexual Assault charges related to incidents in the Ottawa and Gatineau jurisdictions.
