Police Record Checks

In order to obtain a police record check, you must attend the North Bay Police Service in person. In order to process the check, you will be required to produce two pieces of valid government issued identification. The identification must confirm your name, date of birth and address, and one piece of identification must have a photo. We accept driver's licence, birth certificate, citizenship card, passport, age of majority, Military Identification, Indian Status card, student identity card from a Canadian institute, etc. Applicants must be a resident of North Bay and shall provide proof of North Bay residency.

The cost of a record check is $21.13, which is payable at the time of the application. Fees are payable by cash, debit, money order, Visa or Mastercard. Should you wish additional originals at the initial time of purchase, the cost is $1.00 for each additional original.

Processing time will be up to 15 business days (Monday-Friday), but may take longer due to volume.

Vulnerable Sector Search

If a Vulnerable Sector Search is required as part of your record check, the North Bay Police Service will provide the form directly to the applicant. This search is for individuals who will be employed or volunteering in vulnerable positions such as: foster parents, adoptions, social workers, teachers, nurses, working with children (persons under 18 years of age), day care centers, meals on wheels, the elderly, sick or infirm etc. Applicants must be a resident of North Bay and shall provide proof of North Bay residency. The cost is included in the $21.13 fee for the police record check.

On July 19, 2010, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police instituted enhancements to the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) system for querying flagged pardon sex offender records, commonly referred to as a Vulnerable Sector (VS) query that all Canadian Police agencies must comply with.

When performing a VS query, the CPIC system initially attempts to identify a possible match to a sexual offence for which a pardon has been granted. This match is based on the surname and first given name of the individual. If the initial query does not identify the possible existence of a sexual offence record for which the individual received a pardon, the CPIC system will perform a subsequent query based on the SEX and DATE OF BIRTH of the individual. The additional query ensures that the CPIC system will require fingerprints to complete the VS verification based on similar sex and date of birth data. This change may also trigger the CPIC system to prompt for more fingerprint submissions to verify the existence of Pardoned Sex Offender records.

Upon North Bay Police Service processing your record check with a Vulnerable Sector Form 1 attached, individuals affected by this enhancement will be notified and advised of the steps that must be followed in order for their VS check to be completed. It is important for the public to understand that under no circumstances does this notification confirm that the applicant is or is not a pardoned sex offender.

North Bay Police Service will require the Applicant to:

  1. Be fingerprinted on a Form C-216C. Contact the North Bay Police Service Administration Office at 705-497-5555 or attend to book an appointment.
  2. If it is for volunteer purposes, a letter on the organization's letterhead must accompany the application, to waive the RCMP $25.00 fee. If it is for employment purposes, a $25.00 fee is required. You must provide a certified cheque or money order in the amount of $25.00 with the application to the RCMP - payable to The Receiver General of Canada. The approximate RCMP wait time can be up to 120 days.

When the RCMP search process is completed, the results are returned to the police agency. The applicant will then be contacted and will be instructed to re-attend this Service to pick up their police check.
